From the creators of the beloved online interactives (ReadWriteThink and the National Council of Teachers of English), comes a fabulous magnetic poetry app! Magnetic poetry is a great way to study the components of language, to play with words and just see what you get. Practice vocabulary or visualization, see how the meaning of a sentence would change by substituting different verbs or adjectives.
As much as I love magnetic poetry, though, I hadn’t been able to find a good (free) app that I would feel comfortable giving to students until Word Mover. It’s user-friendly, very intuitive, and so much fun!
Students can begin with a word bank or the text of four famous works. Or, they can start completely from scratch.
Choose from 12 available backgrounds, and begin building your poem.
Draw attention to any word by pressing and holding the word until the edit menu appears.
This app has several features that make it a perfect choice for teachers in any kind of classroom situation, whether you have one iPad or a whole class set.
- Profiles – each student’s poetry can be saved under an individual profile. It’s not password protected, but it’s a great option.
- Add a Word – it always happens with magnetic poetry- you run out of “and” or “s” and you can’t finish your sentence! With this app, you can Add a Word of your own if you can’t find it.
- Editing – even after a poem has been “shared,” students can go back and make revisions.
- Share It – sharing options include saving the poem, along with the name from the author’s profile, to the camera roll, or sending it via email.
